Die 311 enthaltenen Briefe zeichnen ein deutliches Bild von Melanchthons privatem, reformatorischem und politischem Engagement. Themen sind u.a. die Bemühungen um Verständigung mit den oberdeutschen Theologen, die in der Wittenberger Konkordie und Luthers Schmalkaldischen Artikeln Ausdruck finden, die Verhandlungen des Schmalkaldischen Bundes mit England und Frankreich sowie die Beratungen über das Konzil. The 311 letters in this volume paint a clear picture of Melanchthon's private, reformational and political commitment. Among other things, they deal with the efforts to come to an understanding with the Upper German theologians, which are expressed in the Wittenberg Concord and Luther's Schmalkaldic Articles, the negotiations of the Schmalkaldic League with England and France as well as the consultations about the council.
