Die »Brautbriefe« von Martha Thienemann (1862-1939) an ihren Verlobten Carl Hauptmann entstanden in den Jahren 1881-1884. Diese private Korrespondenz, die sich in 340 Belegen erhalten hat, ist eine wichtige Informationsquelle für das Leben des jungen Akademikers und angehenden Schriftstellers und darüber hinaus für kulturelle, historische und soziale Lebensbedingungen und Verhaltensweisen der Epoche. Die ausführlichen Briefe Carl Hauptmanns an seine Braut und spätere Ehefrau Martha Hauptmann werden in anschließenden Bänden (mit Erläuterungen der beiderseitigen Korrespondenz) vorgelegt. Martha Thienemann's »Bride Letters« to her fiancé Carl Hauptmann were written in the period from 1881 to 1884. Preserved in 340 letters, their intimate correspondence represents an important source of information for the reconstruction of Hauptmann's life as a young graduate and budding writer. Furthermore, this communication offers an illuminating socio-cultural insight into this period. Carl Hauptmann's letters to his bride and later wife will be published in following volumes along with an analysis of their correspondence.
